Who are we?

Leigh Dementia Carers Support Group is a small independent, grant funded organisation; run by volunteers. This Website is sponsored by The Perfect Selfie Company – Photobooth Hire. www.perfectselfie.co.uk

Membership is open to carers of people with dementia where the carers or cared for; should live within Wigan Borough, carers must be 18 years or above.

Other carers, and former carers that may have an interest in working with the group, may be invited to join at anytime; with the majority agreement of the existing group members. Overlaps in the provision of medical and support services, sometimes encompass residents of Atherton & Tyldesley; carers from these districts are welcome to contact us.

How to join us.

Meetings are held once a month – normally 1st Friday of each month.

The purpose of the group is to:

Give each other support
Share information
Give carers a chance to share their experiences & apprehensions with others
Give carers a break from their caring role through group meetings and social outings
Signpost people to relevant services

“I come to these meetings fully stressed due to the strain of having to cope with the caring role and dealing with the other peripheral requirements of outside services over the last month. I find that being able to discuss my problems with others, who fully understand my circumstances; and listening to others similarly disposed, relieves the stress. In fact; it takes the weight off my shoulders; such that I leave the meeting feeling fully re-charged and able to face the next few weeks; with the knowledge, that I am not alone.”
